Mandy’s POV
I was ten when my father left me and my mom for another woman. I was an only child; mom was working as a college professor while dad was a doctor. Dad fell in love with his co-worker and since he didn’t have so much time with mom, he got bored and looked for another woman.
Mom said that he has always been like that, a playboy. He already had ten girlfriends before he married my mom. That’s the reason why I became a man-hater. I really hate boys, I really hate it whenever they try to get a girl and leave her in the end. Boys will always be boys, they will always look for a girl that could give them anything they’re craving for then leave when they get what they want. That’s the reason why dad also left us.
I hate dad for making my mom cry every single night since the day that he left us. I hate him for being the reason why my mom almost killed herself thinking that that would make her feel better. I hate boys, I really hate them especially those boys who only wants to play with a woman’s heart.
“Mandy, I’ll be home late tonight, okay? Don’t forget to eat before you start studying again. I don’t want you to get hospitalized again because of starving yourself.” Mom said as she parked her car at the entrance of my school.
“I will. Take care, mom.” I said then kissed her on her cheek. “I love you.”
“Oh, I love you more my sweetheart.”
I just waved goodbye to her then I finally stepped out of her car. “Mandyyyyy!!!!”
As soon as I walked out of my mom’s car, a five-feet tall brunette with big round eyes and cute plump lips came running towards me. “Mandy! I’m so glad you’re finally here! I’ve been waiting for you!”
She’s Lily, my best friend ever since I was in kindergarten. We’ve been so close together ever since, she’s actually like my sister already, a younger sister although she’s a year older than me. Lily was a cute girl who loves fangirling over men in magazines and popstars, she also loves following handsome boys around asking for their name. That actually makes me wonder why I even became her best friend.
“Do you know where our room is?” I asked her while I was fixing my glasses and adjusting the strap of my purple backpack. I have been wearing my eyeglasses since I was seven, I can’t even see anything without them on.
Lily clung her hand around my arm. “I still don’t know, but we can just look for it on the bulletin board though.”
“Alright.”
We started walking around the campus together with the other students who look so excited about knowing what room they are going to be in. Vineyard University has been known as the most prestigious University here in our country. Because of its prestige and reputation, it ranked as the most elite institution of higher education, having the lowest acceptance rate. As far as I know, this year, over 50, 000 students applied here but only 2,000 students received an admission letter.
“We’re in room 230!!!” Lily cooed as if she just won the lottery.
“Alright then, let’s go.” I said as I started to walk towards our building while glancing on the map in my phone that the university sent to me.
Lily ran towards me. “Oh my God, Mandy. You wouldn’t believe what I just knew! Oh my God!”
“What is it?” I asked without taking my eyes off the map on my phone.
“Calix would be our classmate!!! Calix Vineyard!!!” she yelled.
“Calix Vineyard? Who’s that?”
Lily’s eyes widened as she looked at me. “What? You don’t know him? You don’t know Calix Vineyard?!!”
“Do I have to know him?”
“Of course, you silly! Calix Vineyard is the one and only son of Vineyard University’s CEO! Oh, and also, he’s the most handsome and hottest guy here in Vineyard.”
“Oh, really?”
She frowned. “You’re not interested, are you? Oh well, I forgot you’re a man-hater.”
“We’re already here,” I said when we finally reached our classroom. There were only several students inside so we had the chance to choose the seat where we want to spend the rest of our semester. Of course, I chose the front seat. I have poor eyesight, so I really need to be seated near the lecturer. And aside from that, I also want to have my full attention to the lesson without seeing any unnecessary things that our classmates would make.
“I wonder when will Calix finally show up. I’ve heard he doesn’t usually attend the first day of class. Maybe he doesn’t also want to waste his time listening to our classmates’ introduction about themselves.” Lily mumbled.
I took the book that mom gave me the other day and continue reading it while ignoring Lily’s sighs and annoying chants. She keeps on talking about that Calix. I wonder if she only came here just to see that man. I still don’t get why women love going crazy over a man just because he’s handsome or hot. I mean, what’s so attractive about that? I think brain and perspectives attract most.
“Have you heard about Calix’s new victim?! Oh God, he just dumped her the other day after having a relationship with her for one week!” one of our classmates with such big mouths suddenly yelled as if she wanted all of us to hear it.
“What’s even surprising about that? Remember how he dumped Monica last month after having sex with her?! God, he said how bad she was in bed in front of so many people! That was so embarrassing!” said the other one.
“Ah, Calix is such a playboy. But anyway, I wouldn’t mind being his victim as long as he promises to have a one-night stand with me!”
“Me too!”
And that made me roll my eyes in annoyance.
