The palace was filled with joyful and loud laughter of the servants
as they got the palace ready for the spring ball. A cloud of happiness shielded the whole kingdom as the ladies got their dresses ready and the men got their finest suits.
This time of the year has always been filled with happiness but this year it seemed the joy was multiplied. The news about the queen giving birth to two healthy baby girls had traveled through the kingdom like wildfire and no one could contain their excitement.
King Maverick couldn't keep the smile off his face as he watched his beautiful wife gently carry one of their babies. They strolled through the path that led to the royal cottage in a comfortable silence.
He watched as the maid carried his other daughter smiling down at her. He was so content with this life and he hoped that everything would stay like that.
He thought about where everything began and he smiled as he remembered how he and his wife were able to join the two kingdoms together. It was a long and troubling road but they pushed through it.If they could survive that, they could survive anything.
Upon reaching the royal cottage King Maverick and his wife Queen Annika settled down and played with their children. The guards stood outside ready to take down any threat.
The maid, Olivia stood at the corner of the room watching the royal family happy together. She felt a wave of sadness take over her as she remembered that she couldn't give this to her husband. She couldn't give him children and although he assured her that everything would be alright couldn't help but blame herself.
Her thoughts were disturbed by the commotion outside the cottage. Fear took over her features as the air was filled with screams of agony. The wooden door was thrown open and men in black suits entered the cottage with wicked smirks plastered on their faces.
Olivia crawled on the ground, trying her hardest to ignore the commotion around her and reached the pram that the babies were kept in. Her action to pick up the babies were halted when she heard the painful scream of the queen as she watched her husband fall to his death.
She closed her eyes and turned away from the scene of the queen also falling. A terrifying realisation took over her. Olivia couldn't take both of the babies. If she attempted to save both she would be slowed down.
Knowing she had no time to think anything over, she grabbed the baby closest to her and exited the cottage using the small window at the back of the room. Her dress caught her feet multiple times as she attempted to sprint through the woods.
She tried as hard as she could not to look back but after a while she couldn't resist it. Black flames covered the once stable cottage. Her small house came to view and her legs worked quicker to help her reach the house.
"Shane? Shane!" She called out for her husband hoping that he was still at home.
"I'm here!" Shane ran out from the back of the house worried about his wife and what would make her so frantic, "What happened? Where did you find the child?"
"The royal family has been attacked and killed Shane. I had to save at least one of these babies," she replied already inside packing her things, "But I don't know if any of the attackers followed me. We need to leave before they catch up to us."
"Where can we go?" Shane questioned hopelessly. Olivia glanced at her husband hoping that he understood what she was trying to say.
"No, Olivia we can't," Shane said sternly.
"We have no other choice. If we are caught by the attackers, they will definitely kill us and this child."
Shane knew he couldn't argue with his wife anymore so he decided to help her pack their few belongings. They walked out of their home of ten years and set off.
As Olivia and her husband crept through the woods slowly, hand in hand, Olivia held the baby closer to her chest and smiled down at the beautiful baby girl.
Although the guilt she felt for leaving the other baby in the cottage never left, she didn't let it bring her down and consume her. She let the guilt, sadness and fear drive her to find a safe place for this child and to make sure no one will ever hurt her.
