Book One: Ophra Of Orhan

Chapter 2

Ophra's POV

I sighed as I watched Alpha Charlie disappear behind the office walls and head to the hospital. He hadn't told me about it, but I had read it in his mind. I have never meant to invade his privacy, but there was nothing I could do to stop myself from reading his thoughts. I am a witch, probably the last one left on earth, because I was the only witch who had run away successfully without being dragged to the demon's lair. I had lied to Alpha Charlie that I ran away from my coven because I was forced to marry a man older than me, but that was not the case. After the demon intruded on our coven, he took every single witch to ever live with him. My grandmother, may God rest her in peace, asked me to run as far as I could because I would be the one to avenge for their deaths. She had whispered some incarnations to me, which she said would cease effect after an hour or so. The spell she had cast on me was to make me invisible so that the demon wouldn't see me slipping out of the coven, and after an hour, when the spell wore off like grandma had predicted, I was far away.

I woke up in a warm place, and I yawned lazily, stretching my numb muscles because I'd been running for so long, and the first thing I saw was the second-most heartless Alpha staring down at me with a glitter of mischief in his eyes. If it were not for the fact that I was a special witch and that no one could pave their way through my "V" area unless it was my destined mate, he would have ripped my princess dress apart and had his way with me. He indeed tried to touch me, and because I loathed getting physical with anyone, I used my powers to conjure the wind and send him flying across the room.

It's like I made a mistake by showing him my powers because he was never scared, as I had expected him to be, but he suddenly became happy and left the room. Later on, using my magic, I was able to penetrate all the walls in his palace and overhear their conversation. His men were praising him that, at long last, the moon god had granted him his wish. That was when I learned that he had been trying every day for more power, and I finally came through. They were going to sacrifice me the same night and strengthen their powers. I fled, because I am sure anybody in my position could have done so. I cast the same spell that Grandma had cast on me, and I successfully escaped from it.

Grandma had never thought much of her powers. Although I had inherited some powers from her, she was still the strongest witch to ever exist, and the ones I never inherited she never taught me, saying I wasn't strong enough. Lucky for me, I can always learn to do things, even if I have to watch someone else do it for a fraction of a second, and that is how I learned the incarnations of the invisible spell. What I recall is that after the spell had worn off and I was far away from the Northern Alpha, I lost all my energy, and that was when my grandma's words rang right in my ears.

"There is always give and take in magic," she had always said. The magic had given me the power to become invisble, and in return, it sipped every last sip of energy from me, and if it were not for the alpha of the Moon's Pack, I could be dead by now. And that was why, even after I learned that I was his mate and he was already happy with Lilith, I decided to let them be, because that was the only way I could show gratitude to him. I was indebted to him, and I really couldn't understand why he would think that I was behind Lilith and Lim's accident.

The detector had made me listen to the voice recordings, of which I was pretty sure it was my own voice, but I don't recall saying those words, and on the video recording, I had seen that the person who had pushed them was indeed me, but how. That day, during Lim's birthday, I gave him his present, excused myself for a deep sleep, and never walked out of my room until the next day, when Alpha Charlie came dragging me out of the room and said that I had tried to kill Lilth and Lim. There is one thing about me: Grandma has always told me that I shouldn't waste time trying to explain myself to people who wouldn't want to listen to me, and that was what was happening with Alpha Charlie.

He had asked me more than a million times, telling me to say the reason why I pushed Lilith and Lim, and no matter how serious I was that I was not the one who pushed them, he didn't listen. I just had to sit and watch him get pissed at the fact that I was calm and collected through all those things and that I hadn't accepted my mistakes yet.

Lia, Lilith's best friend, was the one who gathered all the evidence, and as I have heard, she was the one who saw me pushing them away. I was doubting her; she looked like a bad person, but I couldn't judge her because I wasn't sure yet. I had tried to summon her because I wanted to ask her whether she saw the face of the person who had pushed Lilith and Lim, but Alpha Charlie had refused with the excuse that I had sworn to end Lia's life as well. Anyway, that was what I was recorded saying. I knew that Lim was the one who would save me from this mess, because after Lilith was done dressing him, he had come to my room to ask me whether he looked handsome or not, and after that, he walked out. It was the same second that I heard paiful moans from downstairs, and I didn't wake to check because I assumed it must be Lilth, stumbling down the stairs with her high heels shoes like she always did.

I really regret the fact that I never went to see what was wrong; maybe then I could see the person who had pushed them into this image. "We are taking you back to the pack. That is where you'll be serving your sentence," the detective's voice echoed behind me, waking me from my trance.

"Sure," I responded, flashing a wide smile at him, although I could see the fear in his eyes. Apart from the Northern Pack's Alpha, Alpha Charlie was rumored to be the most ruthless and heatless alpha to ever exist. I had lived with him for three years now, and I was now sure they weren't just rumors but facts. I have seen me ripping men's throats and feeding on them. I have seen him kill people for fun, and I have seen him do the same to all the creatures he called outsiders out there. I was actually shocked by the fact that he had never harmed me, but I guess it was because the moon goddess had tied us together as mates.

"I don't think if you'll survive in Alpha Charlie's hands, but please, just agree to whatever you did and he may forgive you." The detective advised me, and I smirked at him once again, assuring him that I would be safe, but deep down, I knew I would never be. I don't know for how long I will be locked in the dungeon as a criminal, but I know it will be so long that I will lose all my magic. I had seen this coming because I've always had visions, something I had wanted to share with Grandma before she was dragged to the demons' layer. If only I had told her in time, maybe I could have found a way of taking care of the vision and it wouldn't have come to pass, but it was time, and I couldn't escape that.

Back at the pack, I was roughly thrown into the underground dungeon, which was dark and reeked of dead bodies and blood, and then the door was locked behind me. The workers at the mansion, who had once adored and spoiled me, looked at me like I was some sort of killer. I even heard one of them say that she had known that this day would come when I would want to take people's lives because, according to her, witches had to kill to gain more power, even though we were powerful depending on the coven you were born into. I knew that was it. The dungeon was to be my home from then onwards until the day Lilith will come out of her coma and Lim will regain his voice. They were my source of hope. They are the ones who had seen whoever had pushed them down the stairs in my disguise. The doctor said it will take at least five years for Lilith to wake up from her coma and for Lim to regain his voice, and what I forced myself to believe was that five years wasn't far away, even though that was my first day in the dungeon.
