Divorce Sooner Rather Than Later

Chapter 2

"I don't know her."

What a claim, I don't know her.

Lu Er's heart throbs in pain. She closes her eyes, lets her head hang low, pressing her entire face onto the cold floor.

Some things, Lu Er dare not think about. But now it seems, that really is the case.

Regardless of how much hatred brews in her heart, Lu Er couldn't understand why. She was his wife, wasn't she? Was this the way he chose to treat her?

"Well, if that’s the case, I’ll take this woman away. After all, she's hurt me, and I need to settle this score with her." The hefty man threatened, heading in her direction.

Witnessing this, Lu Er panics and shifts her body, attempting to stand. But the pain in her waist is unbearable. In a frenzy, she crawls towards Xu Lin’s direction and clings onto his trouser leg.

"Please Xu Lin, save me."

Lu Er’s eyes are filled with desperation, hoping that Xu Lin could lend her a hand, or at least say something.

The room falls into silence. The scene reminds everyone of a famous TV drama "My Fair Princess," resembling the encounter between Zhiwei and Erkang when Zhiwei was pleading for Erkang’s help to escape her fate - starting the beautiful legend of their love story.

But…

Xu Lin is not Erkang.

Xu Lin steps back with disgust, violently pulls away from Lu Er’s grasp, then nonchalantly sits on a sofa nearby, passively observing the woman on the floor.

Looking at her empty hand, the hope in Lu Er’s eyes slowly diminishes.

Of course... Why would he save her? Hadn’t he always wished for her to die in the most painful way? Didn’t he always find pleasure in her misery?

Lu Er lied on the ground weakly, feeling a sense of despair that was beyond description.

“Dammit, have you got anything else to say? Get up and come with me!” The man attempted to forcefully pull her up, but Lu Er clung firmly to the tea table beside her, focusing her gaze again on Xu Lin.

No, Lu Er didn't want to be dragged away in front of him like this. She couldn't disgrace herself; she couldn't let herself demean herself to the point where she would not be worthy of Xu Lin anymore.

“Husband, save me!" Seeing that she was about to be dragged away, Lu Er suddenly grabbed the hem of Xu Lin's trousers and shouted loudly.

“What? Husband?"

"Yeah, did I hear that right? She called Mr. Xu 'husband'?"

"This is utterly shameless."

There was incessant ridicule in the crowd. The hefty man finally stopped his movements, standing dumbfounded on the spot, unsure what to do.

Xu Lin frowned at her, his eyes full of complex emotions.

This woman... At last, she was showing some intelligence.

He liked smart women, however, he would never come to like her, Lu Er.

"Yo, what's this turn of events?"

Again, the door was opened and a handsome man in a brown suit walked in.

"Mr. Mo!" Someone cried out in surprise.

Xu Lin's gaze swung over, only to find Mo Anran's figure, and his eyes narrowed in displeasure.

Mo Anran was looking at Xu Lin with a nonchalant smile and slowly walked toward them. He had been outside the door, looking through the glass, seeing everything happening inside quite clearly.

Mo Anran focused his gaze on Lu Er lying on the ground. Lu Er slightly turned his head, their gazes meeting for a moment.

This man looked familiar, but Lu Er's mind was in a mess, unable to recall where he had seen him before.

On the other hand, upon seeing Lu Er's face, Mo Anran seemed taken aback. However, this shock was fleeting and he soon turned to look at Xu Lin again, his smile even more meaningful than before.

"President Xu, what a coincidence. I heard that President Wang from Yancheng was in this private room and thought I'd come by. I didn't expect that you would also be here. What a small world," Mo Anran said to Xu Lin with a smile.

Xu Lin glanced at him, remaining silent.

"Are you President Mo from the Mo's Group?" a fat man asked Mo Anran in surprise.

Mo Anran neither confirmed nor denied, merely smiled faintly, "President Wang, this woman has quite a flavor. If you don’t mind, I can take care of her, as a way of showing our warm hospitality.”

Upon hearing Mo Anran's words, a complex light flickered in Xu Lin's unchanging eyes. He looked up to meet Mo Anran's gaze, wetting his lips.

Everyone turned to look in the direction of Xu Lin and Mo Anran, all wearing expressions of disbelief.

Who exactly was this woman? Mo Anran didn't explicitly plead for her, but his words clearly indicated his intention to protect her.

Being an old hand in the business field, President Wang got the hint from Mo Anran. Moreover, Lu Er's yell of "Husband" at Xu Lin moments before made him hesitate.

The Xu and Mo families were the two largest in the city. Who would want to cross both of them over an unknown woman?

"Since Mr. Mo has spoken, I'll let him handle it,” President Wang reluctantly glanced at Lu Er and sat down on another sofa.

Mo Anran gave a half-smile and was about to walk over to assist Lu Er, when Xu Lin, who had been silent up until now, suddenly spoke coldly. “What on earth is the security at the Mona Lisa doing, letting someone sneak in and pretend to be my wife? Get her out of here!”

Upon hearing Xu Lin, Mo Anran’s outstretched hand seemed rather awkward.

Lu Er looked up at Xu Lin’s face, which still retained an indifferent expression, as if he was just an outsider.

Mo Anran withdrew her hand and looked down at Xu Lin from an elevated perspective, sneering, "I really didn't expect that young master Xu is still such an interesting person."

Both men looked at each other with daggers in their eyes, and the atmosphere around them froze instantly.

Several tall security guards came in and directly lifted Lu Er from the ground towards the exits. Lu Er endured the pain in her arm from being forcefully held, her eyes fixed on Xu Lin.

Xu Lin turned his head, his expression still cool and detached.

Lu Er was thrown outside the bar, her clothes were already torn, and as passersby saw her like this, they immediately began to gather around her.

Lu Er bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes.

She too had her dignity. Even if she had always appeared low and humble in front of Xu Lin.

She quickly struggled to her feet, clutching her chest protectively, and dashed towards the bus station.

She was in such a rush when she left the house; there was not much money on her. She had spent all her money for a taxi to deliver clothes to Xu Lin, and now she was left with nothing but two coins.

Stumbling and crying as she walked, she drew the attention of quite a few passersby.
